Robert L. Reynolds
President and Chief Executive Officer
Bob Reynolds was appointed president and chief executive officer of Great-West Financial® in May 2014. He provides leadership and strategic direction for the company's Empower Retirement, Great-West Financial and Great-West Investments™ businesses. In addition, Reynolds serves as president and chief executive officer of Great-West Lifeco U.S. LLC. Also president and chief executive officer of Putnam Investments since 2008, Reynolds has more than 30 years of financial services and investments experience. Before joining Putnam, he spent 24 years at Fidelity Investments, serving as vice chairman and chief operating officer from 2000 to 2007.
Among many awards and recognitions, Reynolds received a Lifetime Achievement Award from PLANSPONSOR magazine in 2005 for his contributions to the retirement services industry and was awarded a President's Medal of Excellence from Boston College. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration/finance from West Virginia University, from which he also received an honorary doctorate in business administration and a Distinguished Alumni Award.
Reynolds serves on the executive committee of the Massachusetts High Technology Council board and on the boards of several nonprofits, including West Virginia University Foundation, Concord Museum, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation. He is chairman of the Boston Advisory Board of American Ireland Fund and a member of the Chief Executives Club of Boston and the Council on Competitiveness.
Edmund F. Murphy III
President, Empower Retirement
Ed Murphy joined Great-West Financial® in 2014 as president of its retirement business. He provides leadership and strategic direction for Empower Retirement’s 5,000 associates. He directs all defined contribution, defined benefit, institutional and IRA markets. He also oversees all sales, marketing and global operations.
Murphy brings 30 years of broad industry experience to his role. Before becoming head of Empower, he had served as managing director of the defined contribution and investment only business at Putnam Investments since 2009. He joined the firm’s operating committee in 2011.
Previously, Murphy held executive leadership roles for 17 years at Fidelity Investments in its institutional, private equity and retail businesses. He also served as president and CEO of Veritude, LLC, as well as a board member of BostonCoach, Advisor Technology Services, Seaport Hotel, World Trade Center and several other Fidelity-owned businesses. Earlier, he spent six years with Merrill Lynch.
Murphy has written articles on retirement-related matters and has testified in Washington, D.C., before the House Committee on Ways and Means. He also has testified before the Department of Labor, the Treasury Department and the IRS. He speaks on topics ranging from investment advice to lifetime income solutions for retirees.
Murphy is a board member of the Employee Benefit Research Institute, Cristo Rey School, Boston College Wall Street Council and the New England Council. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston College. Murphy also is a graduate of the General Manager Program at Harvard Business School.
Robert K. Shaw
President, Individual Markets
Bob Shaw has been with the Great-West Family of Companies since 1977. He was appointed executive vice president of Great-West Financial® in 2010 and president of Individual Markets in 2015. Shaw provides leadership for the company's Individual Markets Division, which focuses on providing retirement income and life insurance solutions to clients throughout the country. Shaw began his career with The Great-West Life Assurance Company in Winnipeg, Canada. He became vice president, marketing and product development, of Great-West Financial in 1991. Shaw has a Bachelor of Commerce degree with honors from the University of Manitoba. He is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. Shaw is active with the Denver Metropolitan Affiliate, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, for which he served on the board of directors for six years.
David L. Musto
President, Great-West Investments
David Musto joined Great-West Financial® in 2014 and was appointed president of Great-West Investments in 2016. He provides leadership and strategic direction for the investments business, including capital preservation, mutual fund, in-plan retirement income and managed account solution platforms. In this capacity, Musto is responsible for Great-West subsidiaries including: Great-West Funds, Inc., Great-West Capital Management, LLC, and Advised Assets Group, LLC, the latter two being registered investment advisers.
Before becoming head of Great-West Investments, Musto held a series of senior executive positions in the benefits, retirement and asset management industries. At Great-West Financial, he served as executive vice president of the company’s retirement business, Empower Retirement, where he led the firm’s large, mega and not-for-profit markets.
Prior to joining Great-West, Musto was CEO of J.P. Morgan Retirement Plan Services, where he ultimately participated in the sale of that business to Great-West, creating Empower Retirement. He joined J.P. Morgan in 2007 as managing director and head of defined contribution investment solutions for asset management. In this role, he led the firm’s efforts to serve the investment and support needs of plan sponsor clients, retirement platforms and intermediary partners.
Formerly, as senior vice president for Prudential Retirement, Musto was responsible for the full-service retirement offering in the emerging corporate market, including product development, distribution and service models. He also held senior management positions in Cigna’s retirement business, at Prudential Financial and at Kamoon, a startup financial software company.
Musto has written on many retirement-related matters and is a frequent speaker at industry events. He is a passionate advocate for improvements to America’s retirement system and workplace programs, serving as vice chair of the Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association (DCIIA) and, previously, on the executive committee of the Society of Professional Asset-Managers and Recordkeepers (SPARK).
Musto holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the College of William & Mary and a master’s degree in finance and international business from New York University, Stern School of Business. He also holds several industry designations, including Certified Investment Management Analyst® professional, Chartered Financial Consultant and Chartered Life Underwriter.
Charles B. McDevitt
Executive Vice President, Great-West Lifeco U.S. Inc.
Chuck McDevitt was appointed executive vice president of Great-West Lifeco U.S. LLC, indirect parent company of Great-West Financial®, in 2014. He leads the Office of Integration Project Management, which supports the integration of the Great-West Financial retirement business with those of sibling company Putnam Investments and the former J.P. Morgan Retirement Plan Services, acquired by Great-West Financial in 2014.
Previously, McDevitt held senior management roles at Fidelity Investments, most recently as chief operating officer of Global Foreign Exchange for Fidelity Asset Management. He also served as chief financial officer for Fidelity Asset Management, head of international operations for Pyramis Global Advisors (Fidelity’s institutional business), and head of investment operations for Fidelity’s Equity Division.
McDevitt also held operations, finance and project management roles at Geode Capital Management, Sapient Corporation and KPMG Peat Marwick Consulting. Before his corporate career, McDevitt served as an officer in the U.S. Army.
McDevitt earned a bachelor's degree in management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Andra S. Bolotin
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Andra Bolotin joined Great-West Financial® in 2015 as senior vice president and chief financial officer. In 2016 she was appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer of both Great-West Financial and its indirect parent company, Great-West Lifeco U.S. LLC.
At Great-West Financial, Bolotin leads 230 associates whose roles include financial analysis, reporting, risk and control, as well as actuarial and tax. She also helps set strategic direction. In her Great-West Lifeco U.S. role, she oversees capital structure, control and tax planning, as well as the corporate accounting and tax teams at affiliate Putnam Investments.
Bolotin has been with the Great-West Family of Companies since 2008, when she joined the finance leadership team at Putnam. She served as head of corporate finance and controller and as co-head of the Putnam Enterprise Risk Committee.
Before joining Putnam, Bolotin was senior vice president and chief financial officer of the developing business group at Fidelity Investments. She also served as CFO of Fidelity HR Services and senior vice president of corporate finance. Previously she was vice president and treasurer at Polaroid and an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company.
Bolotin, who holds a degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, started her career as a chemical engineer at IBM. She holds an MBA in finance and operations from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Ernie P. Friesen
Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, General Account
Ernie Friesen has been with the Great-West Family of Companies since 1986. He was appointed senior vice president and chief investment officer, general account, of Great-West Financial in 2013. Friesen manages Great-West Financial’s public and private corporate bond portfolio, asset-backed securities, commercial mortgages, municipal bonds and alternative investments. He also is responsible for setting strategy, board reporting, investment policy, risk management and oversight of all general account investment activities. Friesen and his staff have consistently produced strong results with outstanding performance in the most recent difficult economic cycle. He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree with honors from the University of Manitoba and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Stephen E. Jenks
Senior Vice President, Marketing
Steve Jenks joined Great-West Financial® in 2014. He oversees the marketing effort for Great-West and Empower Retirement.
Previously, Jenks served as head of defined contribution product and marketing for Putnam Investments. He joined Putnam in 2011 and helped shape and execute growth strategies for the defined contribution, investment-only and rollover businesses.
Jenks began his investment industry career in 1990 with Fifth Third Bank. From there, he held leadership roles in marketing, product, finance and relationship management at Fidelity Investments from 1992 to 2009. He also co-founded Acceleration Retirement, a marketing analytics and outsourcing firm, and Stable Two Financial, a registered investment advisory company. He served as CEO of both companies.
Jenks serves on the board of directors of the American Red Cross Mile High Area. He holds a bachelor’s degree with distinction in business analysis from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer
Jeff Knight joined Great-West Financial® in 2012 and was appointed senior vice president and chief technology officer in 2014. He oversees the systems areas associated with retirement services, individual markets, investments and other corporate areas, including management of the company’s retirement plan recordkeeping platform.
In his previous roles at Great-West Financial, Knight led teams responsible for multiple aspects of the company’s recordkeeping system, including application systems architecture, business intelligence and data services, production support, statements, document production, and software configuration management.
Before joining the firm, Knight was chief information officer at IAS. He also held senior management positions at Fortune 500 companies such as Capital Cities/ABC, International Thomson and Fiserv, as well as at privately held firms. His management roles included retirement recordkeeping systems, back office operations and business line leadership.
Knight earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas.
David G. McLeod
Senior Vice President, Product Management
Dave McLeod joined the Great-West Family of Companies in 1985 and was appointed senior vice president, product management, of Great-West Financial® in 2012. He is responsible for product development efforts across the company’s retirement administration, annuity and insurance and capital preservation solutions.
Previously, he held several leadership positions with Great-West Financial and affiliated companies, including vice president, investment operations, and controller/treasurer of Great-West Funds.
A business graduate of the University of Manitoba, McLeod holds FINRA series 6, 26 and 65 registrations and a Certified Management Accountant designation.
Richard G. Schultz
General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer
Richard Schultz has been in-house counsel with the Great-West Family of Companies since 1986. As the general counsel and chief legal officer for Great-West Financial®, he is responsible for all legal and regulatory matters involving the company. He also serves as the company's corporate secretary. In addition, Schultz serves as senior vice president, general counsel, Great-West Life & Annuity Insurance Company, for Great-West Lifeco Inc.
After serving as assistant counsel for The Great-West Life Assurance Company in Winnipeg, Canada, Schultz joined Great-West Financial in 1995. Previously, he was an associate at the Winnipeg law firm Taylor McCaffrey.
Schulz received his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto, and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg. He is licensed to practice law in Colorado and Manitoba.
Catherine S. Tocher
Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, Separate Accounts
Cathe Tocher has been with the Great-West Family of Companies since 1986. She was appointed senior vice president and chief investment officer, separate accounts, of Great-West Financial® in 2013.
In addition to that role, she was named acting global chief investment officer of parent company Great-West Lifeco Inc. in 2017.
Within Great-West Financial’s general account, Tocher oversees portfolio management and manages the trading desk and the quantitative analysis team. She also oversees money markets and works closely with risk management, product development and sales teams across markets.
Tocher attended the Université de Poitiers, where she received a French diploma, and the University of Manitoba, where she received a Bachelor of Commerce degree with honors. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Tocher is a board member of the Denver Metropolitan Affiliate, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and is involved in CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) and Urban Peak, Denver.
Suzanne M. Sanchez
Chief Human Resources Officer
Suzanne Sanchez joined Great-West Financial® in 2005 and was named chief human resources officer in 2011. Sanchez is responsible for the design and implementation of human resources strategies, processes and policies. She oversees several important functions, including performance consulting, compensation, benefits, workforce analytics, learning and development, employee relations, HR systems, and corporate social responsibility.
Prior to her current role, she was vice president of human resources and spent her earliest years at the firm in talent acquisition and talent management roles.
Before joining Great-West Financial, Sanchez held multiple management roles overseeing sales, recruiting and operations within the staffing industry. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado Denver and is a certified senior professional in human resources.
