The Great-West summer actuarial internship was an excellent way to gain hands-on experience in the insurance industry. Working on relevant projects and hearing about the day-to-day activities of the actuarial students and staff provided both a good understanding of the profession and a wealth of information which I can use to make future career decisions.

Great-West has opened the door for opportunities in my career. As an intern, I worked closely on projects with the company's senior management. Away from work, I built relationships with the other interns and students by whitewater rafting, country swing dancing, watching outdoor movies, and attending Colorado Rockies games. The internship provided a hands-on experience of true actuarial work and launched me into a full-time position with the company. As an actuarial student, I continue to work with senior management, while contributing to the success of the company and being a part of the tight-knit student community. I feel that Great-West does a wonderful job combining intriguing work with a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

The projects I worked on over the summer truly were assignments that were valuable to the company.
I had to present the results of my projects in person to two of the vice presidents of Great-West and was guided the whole way by a Senior Actuarial Analyst and an Intern Mentor. Having people above me who were very involved and invested in my progress made me feel not just like an intern, but a real part of the Great-West team.

Great-West Life & Annuity Company is GREAT! My summer here has been nothing short of spectacular in more ways than one. Work-wise, I gained experience and picked up technical skills that will assist me in future endeavors. Socially, I got to meet and talk to successful FSAs as well as understand the jobs that actuarial students undertake upon graduation. For off-work entertainment, we had baseball games, whitewater rafting, Water World, Elitch Gardens and even a horse jumping grand prix. In a word, I would describe my internship with Great-West Life & Annuity as holistic. What more can an intern ask for?

Being an intern at Great-West was a very rewarding way to spend my summer. I learned a lot about the company’s inner workings and got the chance to play a part in important actuarial projects. It was a fun way to spend a summer and find out what actuaries really do on an everyday basis.
